TEACHING AND SUPPORT
AT VARSITY COLLEGE

A key aspect of Varsity College that really sets us apart is the level of support we provide for our students. We know it’s not always easy to make the successful transition into higher education and succeed at an academic and personal level, especially for first year students.

THE VC TEAM IS HERE TO SUPPORT YOU IN EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR STUDENT LIFE!

THE VARSITY COLLEGE BLUEPRINT TO SUCCESS

Key to student support is an all-inclusive framework that we have developed to help every student achieve a full, balanced and successful student experience. The Blueprint covers such aspects as study skills, emotional coping, assertiveness and communication skills, course and career choice as well as administrative procedures.

COMPREHENSIVE ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Each campus has a student support team, whose primary function is to identify and address challenges students face. Additionally we provide students with a number of academic support opportunities, including study skills, assignment workshops and literacy and numeracy programmes.

The student support team is managed by the Vice Principal of Student Support (VPSS). Working closely with the VPSS are Academic Development Coordinators (ADCs), experienced and passionate education experts who work closely with students in regards to time management, exam preparation, understanding of course content etc. Full-Time Lecturers (FTLs) spend most of their time in the classroom but are always available to provide extra assistance.

COUNSELLING AND CRUCIAL LIFE SKILLS

The Student Relations Manager (SRM) is the on-campus counsellor, a registered health professional tasked with promoting the holistic development of students. The SRM’s focus is on trauma support, student wellbeing (social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical), good citizenship and community engagement. The SRM is assisted by the Student Relations Coordinator (SRC).

SRMs also run monthly awareness campaigns, mentorship programmes and life skills workshops such as the Work Readiness Programme.

One of the aims of the SRM is to help students thrive not only academically but also in society. Playing a crucial role in this regard is the VC Cares Committee, which falls under the guidance of the SRM. This voluntary student body gives members the opportunity to lead fellow students in a range of initiatives that include fundraising, awareness drives and outreach projects – such as the Queen for a Day / Captain Courage event, run in conjunction with the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

This is truly rewarding work that helps students grow as individuals and socially aware citizens, empowering themselves and those in the surrounding community. The work done by VC Cares provides a real and meaningful learning experience; with the added benefit of practical professional experience – particularly in the fields of event management and marketing.

CAREER ADVICE FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Deciding which qualification to study towards is one of the most important decisions you will ever make – as it will lay the foundation for your career and determine your employability.

Even before you enroll at Varsity College, a Student Advisor will meet with you to help you make an informed decision about what to study. They will guide you through the various qualification options available at Varsity College, explain the fee structure, timetabling and registration procedure, as well as introduce you to the campus.
