The Varsity College ladies played to a fantastic 4 - 2 win against UKZN yesterday. The team started extremely well and took an early 1 - 0 lead, goal scored by Colleen Kelly. They then fought hard to keep UKZN at bay through some brave defending and keeping by Micheala Mulvey. Colleen doubled the lead just before half time to give the ladies a 2 - 0 lead going into the break.

The second half started the same as the first with Colleen grabbing her hat-trick to give us a 3 - 0 lead. UKZN fought back and two good finishes brought them back to 3 - 2.

With five minutes left in the game Jamie Chisholm snatched the fourth goal and gave VC the deserving win.

Varsity College men’s team played against Riverside and started as the stronger of the two teams to take an early lead through a penalty corner deflection from Daniel Sibbald. Riverside answered back straight away with a goal of their own. Andrew Manson put us ahead again with a good penalty corner drag flick only to see Riverside respond immediately to draw level.

A moment of brilliance from Andrew Manson saw him smash the ball past SA goalkeeper Gowan Jones to take a 3 - 2 lead. Again Riverside came back strongly to score twice and take a 4 - 3 lead into the half time break.

The second half saw Riverside show their experience and play some dominant hockey to score three unanswered goals and take the victory.

The Varsity College men were convincingly beaten 7 - 3 by a rampant second half performance from the Riverside first team.

We have our last game against Kearsney Old Boys on Sunday.
