The 9th of October saw the 7th ANNUAL Varsity College Schools Quiz powered by Algoa FM in Port Elizabeth. The Schools Quiz, held at Victoria Park High School, saw 32 teams representing 18 schools from Port Elizabeth and surrounds. The Quiz was held over three rounds each consisting of seven categories including current affairs, sport, entertainment, history, geography and the environment, arts and literature and general knowledge. The event has become a fiercely competitive annual event in the Port Elizabeth schools calendar and has even inspired, by the format the start of a new schools league.

The winning team this year was Victoria Park High School. The 2012 winners retained the trophy and now house the schools quiz trophy and will be known as the champions of 2013. With each team member walking away with an R 1,000.00 cash prize, a bursary from Varsity College as well as an R 120, 000 bursary fund to be given to a grade 12 learner at the school’s discretion. Second place went to Theodor Herzl and the Victoria Park 2nd team took third spot.

This year was the third year that saw a collaboration between Varsity College and Algoa FM. Part of the collaboration was that in the lead up to the quiz 4 schools were selected to go up against the DMB (Daron Mann Breakfast Show) live on air in studio. The quiz master both on air and at the actual event was Daron Mann.
