Each month, Varsity College will give insight into a key job function, by profiling one of the current staff members in that role. This month, we profile Sanisha, the Academic Development Coordinator:
Role: Academic Development Coordinator
Name: Sanisha
Campus: Port Elizabeth
1. Describe your career path that has lead you to your current position.
I started my career at Varsity College Port Elizabeth as a casual assistant for the School of Business and Technology in 1999. After moving to Durban in 2000, I was employed permanently as marketing co-ordinator for the School of Business and Technology. I was promoted to Head of Department on the full-time programmes at Varsity College Durban North in 2008.
In 2007 I moved back to Port Elizabeth, mainly because of my family, and was fortunate enough to continue my journey with Varsity College as a full-time lecturer. I was promoted to my current position in 2008.
2. What are the daily demands of your job?
I attend to the academic and learning needs of students and also support lecturers with their teaching strategies.
3. What do you find rewarding about working at Varsity College?
My position as ADC is a position of support, and I find helping students to help themselves particularly rewarding. I also lecture, so it’s particularly rewarding when my students do well in their studies.
