Diploma in Public Relations (DipPR)
The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE)
Introduction to a Diploma in Public Relations
Crucial to the success of any organisation is the relationship that it maintains with stakeholders via public relations. Maintaining this relationship requires technical skill, effective communication (across all mediums) and strategic thinking.
This Public Relations Diploma is a three year programme that bolsters your abilities in public relations theory and practice, improving your employability in this fast-moving field.
WHO IS THIS DEGREE AIMED AT?
Consider this qualification if you dream of one day being an influencer: a PR consultant managing an organisation’s public image and relationship with its staff, customers and investors. You’ll need to be excited at the prospect of working as a jack-of-all-trades – liaising with the media, writing and editing press releases, as well as producing in house journals, staff magazines and potentially overseeing social media activities.
WHAT IS THIS DIPLOMA’S ACCREDITATION STATUS?
The Diploma in Public Relations is accredited by the Council on Higher Education as a Higher Education Qualification at level 6 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). It is also registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) ID number: 58694.
WHAT IS PRISA?
Established in 1957, the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) represents professionals in public relations and communication management throughout the southern African region and has registered practitioners in Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa.
It is a founding member of the Global Alliance for Public Relations & Communication Management and initiated the formation of the Council for Communication Management (CCM) in South Africa. The Council is the coordinating body representing various groupings of professionals in South Africa.
PRISA plays a leading role in uniting professionals and driving transformation. As the recognised leader of the public relations and communication management profession in southern Africa and beyond, PRISA provides the southern African industry with the local professional advantage.
WHAT IS AN ENDORSEMENT?
The Diploma in Public Relations is endorsed by PRISA. Endorsement of a learning programme is an indication to the marketplace that a formal process has been undertaken to ensure that the programme on offer is of a high quality, and has met the criteria laid down by the authorising body.
PRISA is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the provision of education and training, related to public relations and communication, in Southern Africa. PRISA strives to fulfil this vision by the endorsement of public relations and communication learning programmes that have been developed by other subject matter experts.
WHAT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS WILL I NEED TO STUDY THIS DEGREE?
You will need a minimum of a National Senior Certificate with English at a rating of two (30-39%) and have met the minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma or Bachelors degree, a Senior Certificate, or an equivalent qualification. A certified copy of your National Senior Certificate (Std 10/Grade 12 school leaving certificate) or an equivalent qualification must be submitted to the campus.
