Varsity College Helps with Reaching of Dreams
One of the components of the Varsity College student experience is VC Cares, a student initiative run by students for students who want to actively engage with those in need. Every semester Varsity College identifies one non-profit organization nationally, with which each campus engages. The Reach for a Dream Foundation has been the non-profit organization Varsity College has partnered with for the past three years.
The objective of the Foundation is to fulfill the dreams of children of all income groups and of any race, colour or creed between the ages of 3 and 18 years who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness by a doctor. The Varsity College campuses host either little girls as “Queens for the Day”, or little boys as “Captain Courage”. Each campus decides on a programme for the day, which usually includes entertainment and treats for the children.
The aim of the work carried out by the Foundation is to improve the quality of life for all children facing extended periods in hospital, often far away from their families. Outings, games and (activity centres) activities for children in hospital are arranged and the foundation attempts to fulfill the specific dreams for a variety of items (e.g. bicycles, toys etc). The positive effects of the dream linger and children respond better to their medical treatment. Varsity College is proud to be able to help.
