Nine years ago, Varsity College partnered with the Natal Witness for the Pietermaritzburg school quiz. Off this success, it was decided to roll out the quiz to our other regions. Cape Town was next with Pretoria and Port Elizabeth joining in 2008. This year, Durban North and Westville will combine to stage their first and so will the Sandton campus.

Aimed at Grade 11 and 12 students, the quiz covers a range of topics including among others SA current affairs, sport and  history. The winning team members each get R1,000 and the winning school takes away the floating trophy and a substantial study bursary to Varsity College, awarded to a learner at the school's discretion.

In 2008, Bishops, Pretoria Boys High, Grey Port Elizabeth, and Carter High were the victors out of 120 participating schools.

There is little doubt that scholars this year are once again keeping their ears to the ground in their quest for superior general knowledge -- the ultimate goal -- winning this highly prestigious competition.
